What are all the Orientation Leaders doing this summer?

Well I’m not really sure about everyone else, so maybe everyone should post what they are doing when they log into the tumblr! =]

As for me, I’m working at Pritzker Marine Lab on campus for the summer. I feed the fish and maintain their tanks. It’s an awesome place and an amazing job.

are there any classes specifically for first years? i'm an incoming student and i'm a little intimidated by the idea of just jumping into classes with all the older novo collegians. most of the other colleges i looked at had some kind of freshman seminar program to get the new students up to snuff in terms of their writing and speaking abilities... does ncf have anything like that?

To my knowledge, NCF does not have any first year seminars or things of that sort for First time college kids. We do have some classes during orientation that are for teaching you how to succeed and such, though! Don’t worry, New College is a wonderful place and you shouldn’t be intimidated! Intro- and General classes are a good place to start. Intro Psych, General Chemistry, General Biology, and Calculus I are good classes for incoming people to begin their educations, though.

What are the Pei triples like? Are they the same size as doubles? Any kind of privacy at all?

Pei triples are the same size as doubles. The only difference is that triples have an extra set of furniture in them (desk/dresser/bed). They also have a third person living in them, which can be a great thing or not-so-great thing depending on how the roommates mesh.
The triples can still be pretty spacious depending on how the roommates decide to organize their furniture.
All rooms have blinds that allow for privacy from outside.
As far as privacy with one’s roommates… there isn’t much. But that is a part of college and sharing a living space. If privacy becomes an issue or is of particular concern, letter-dorms have open spaces as the year progresses. The letter-dorms allow each suite-mate to have their own bedroom with a shared living space.

I recommend investing in some headphones and maybe earplugs in order to increase privacy (and Zzzz’s).

Hope this helped to answer your question!

Hi everyone! I’m Shane and this is my first post. I’ll mostly be uploading photos I’ve taken for the Catalyst this past school year. Happy summer!

Hey!

I’m here all day to answer your questions about New College and orientation!

Question: I know that I need to fill out course requests--not official ones, obviously, just the pre-crs--but the instructions advise me to wait for my advisor's assistance/counsel. When are incoming students typically assigned their advisors?

Incoming students will probably be assigned their advisors around the end of July/early August.
You aren’t going to officially meet with your advisors until orientation week, and mini classes are right after that.
I recommend filling out the course request system now, rather than later, because it will give you a leg up in terms of not being capped out of classes.
I hope this helps a bit, and if anyone else has something to add, please do so.
